Can You Learn To Tig Weld This Fast?

Jeremiah Brown, a former Olympic rower for Team Canada, had an ambitious idea: build an electric-powered bicycle camper and travel thousands of kilometres from Ontario to Florida—and possibly all the way to Argentina. The catch? He needed to weld the entire aluminium frame himself, get it done in a hurry, and he had no prior welding experience.

An ambitious task to say the least, if you’re wondering how to learn TIG welding quickly—especially for aluminium—this one’s for you.

So, we got to work.
The key to learning TIG welding quickly isn’t starting with fancy settings or complex joints. It’s mastering the basics—fast. We began with no filler material, just focusing on torch manipulation and consistent standoff distance. We perfected his posture and got him comfortable- for someone who's 6'8" this was really important..! Most beginners either dip the tungsten or drift too far away during a pass. Both mistakes can destroy a good weld, and understanding the fundamentals at this level helped him to get going really quickly.

So the first drill: hold the torch steady, maintain a consistent arc length, and don’t even think about filler rod yet. Once that feels natural, we start to introduce filler—just holding it at first to get comfortable. It’s all about building the right habits early so you can avoid common rookie errors later.

Jeremiah picked it up fast. In one session, he filled in the blanks he’d been struggling with on his own. We kept the machine settings simple and clear (I’ve listed the exact setup in the video below), and cleaned everything properly. The result? Clean arcs, steady puddles, and the confidence to start laying down real welds.

His goal was to build a one-of-a-kind lightweight trailer camper to tow behind his road bike. That meant he needed real-world, project-specific practice. So we tailored his training to match what he’d actually be welding at home. Square tubing, joints, angles—it wasn’t just textbook exercises. It was practical training for a real mission.

Of course, we ran out of time. But I wasn’t about to leave him hanging. I enrolled him into my full online TIG welding program. That way, he could keep learning from a distance, and during his travels—watching videos on flights, replaying lessons at home, and picking up exactly where we left off.

And it worked.
Over the next few months, Jeremiah kept welding. He followed the lessons, worked on tougher joints, and kept sending updates on his progress. The "Cyber Drop "Trailer took shape, and once it was done, he hit the road.

To date, he’s put over 2500 miles on the trailer, riding down the Atlantic coast. And the welds? Not a single crack or failure. That’s the power of learning TIG welding the right way from day one.

Even better—his work caught people’s attention. The design was so popular that he’s now considering launching a business building custom trailers. Think about that: from zero welding knowledge to a full-blown career change—all because he decided to learn TIG welding for one project.

This isn’t just a fluke. I’ve seen so many people use TIG welding as a launchpad for projects, businesses, and life changes. Whether it’s in-person coaching or through my online programs, the results speak for themselves.

If you're sitting on an idea that involves welding—whether it's for your career, your hobby, or something you just want to build—there’s never been a better time to start. Aluminium, stainless, mild steel—it doesn’t matter. With the right fundamentals and proper guidance, you can go from amateur to confident welder faster than you think.

And if you’re already trying to learn on your own but struggling to put it all together, don’t keep spinning your wheels. Get a blueprint. Get support. Watch the lessons that actually show you what to do—and why it matters.

Jeremiah’s story is proof that with a clear goal, solid instruction, and a bit of hustle, you can learn TIG welding fast—even if you’ve never touched a torch in your life.
